Country walks and fireside lounging

About Valerie

We've been looking after friends dogs for a couple of years and really love having them to stay. Our house is opposite open fields and woods so we go for lovely walks at all times of the year taking different routes and discovering new places. The garden is walled so totally dog safe and there is very little traffic or noise. The house is quite big with plenty of cosy spots ( especially in front of the fire) for curling up for a snooze. My husband and I work mostly at home so there's always someone around for doggie chats and playing. He ( David) works in TV documentary filmmaking and is also studying Art History. I work in events and theatre production. Every dog has its own character and we enjoy getting to know them and generally making them part of our lives. We love having dogs to stay while their owners are on holiday so we can really settle in together and it's so rewarding when they come and sit with us and tell us they think we're OK cool people! We regularly take care of a pair of Springer Spaniels, sometimes just for the day and sometimes for a week at a time when the owners are away. This month we have a Labrador staying while her owners tour South East Asia. We love cooking and having friends round for meals and weekends. We also enjoy pottering round antique markets, visiting galleries and museums. We are currently making some renovations in the house which keeps us very busy and in the Spring we'll tackle some garden redesign. We moved to the country in 2015 from London and always intended to have a dog of our own but our daughter in law is afraid of dogs and as they have just had a baby we have decided not to take that step for the time being - I'm sure, that when our grandson is a small boy, the subject will come up again and we'll persuade her it's a totally good idea! In the meantime, dog sitting suits us very well.

Val is NOT experienced with puppies, in my opinion. My 7 month old puppy was left on his own in a vestibule. Val told me he damaged a doormat. She charged me £10 cash for a replacement. I had provided a selection a chew toys for him to be redirected on. He was around a dog who had just come off heat. My puppy was very disturbed on his return home. He was clearly hormonal as a result. Val did not feed my puppy all day. I had provided food and times. He was ravenous by the time I got home. This is not acceptable for a puppy. A very negative experience for my puppy and myself.

Once again my dog adored his stay with this lovely couple, was very well kept fed and walked and im pretty sure he is sulking that I've brought him home. Ten out of ten!
