About Susan

At Home from Home we have over 20 years experience in looking after animals: dog cats and horses even ferrets! Home from Home is located in our large house and 1/3 acre garden and exercise yards...lots of space for all our day care and home boarders to play, or to stretch in the sun (weather permitting!).

All home boarders and day care dogs receive 2 x 45 minutes - 1 hour per day and we will tailor our care to meet the needs of you and your dog. Whilst with us your dog will be part of our family and as we only ever have a few "visitors" at any one time we can give them all the attention they

We also have a home visiting service for puppies, cats and other pets.

We area fully insured and approved member of the Petsitters Alliance.

Pleas note all dogs must be microchipped and up to date with their vaccinations. We cannot accommodate unneutered adult male dogs or bitches in heat.

The 1992 Control of Dogs Act states that it is a legal requirement for all dogs to wear a collar and ID tag when in any public space. If your dog comes to us without a collar and ID tag we will put one of ours on for the duration of their stay.

    Sadly our experience started well but didn't end well or in a good way. We left and trusted Susan to look after our 6 month old Golden Retriever Lady, at very short notice (within 48 hours) as our usual sitter had an emergency. Susan kindly offered to help which was great. Susan had good reviews and provided us plenty of information in advance. She was very helpful on the morning of dropping our puppy off. The establishment Susan had looked good and other dogs were already on site, Susan slowly introduced them to our pup and was great with all the dogs. Susan put our mind at ease and so we left our pup. Later in the day Susan sent a picture and a quick update to show us how Lady was doing, which was reassuring. We'd arranged a pick up time and went to collect Lady. On arrival Susan and her partner were very complimentary of our well behaved puppy and made us aware that Lady had caught and hurt her claw on something and so she had tidied it up. Susan also mentioned that Lady sheds hair (which is standard for a golden retriever) so she had given Lady a "good brush with a coat King". A brush I had not heard of before and was gutted to find out what it was and had done. When Lady came over her coat looked very different and was very corse in texture. When we arrived at the car I examined Lady further and found her hair on her back was very short and corse and in a very bad way, whereas usually it's long and soft and conditioned. She is brushed every day as she is a naturally long haired dog and as most know, retrievers constantly shed hair. So I text Susan to ask what she had done? Susan's reply was instantly defensive, which surprised me, I'd expected her to just explain what brush had been used. In her text she explained that she'd only used a soft brush and that the new state of Lady's hair was from rolling around on the concrete yard with the other dogs. This was not what Susan had said in person, as she'd mentioned a coat king, which I found out was a bladed stripping brush - not the soft brush Susan lied about. I explained that I was upset that my dogs hair had been groomed/stripped without my permission and that I spend a lot of time looking after her coat. I was upset that I'd not been asked about my own dog and no permission was gained. Had Susan offered to thin/strip Lady's coat I would have asked her not to and just to give her a normal brushing as she would get at home. I questioned her on this and asked for further information and sadly Susan has not responded. I believe Susan thought she knew what was best for my dog more than me and that is not what a good dog sitter would do. Other than this the rest of the service was good. If you do choose to leave your dog with Susan, just ensure that you are clear about how your dog is treated - e.g. Brushed, groomed etc. I hope Susan considers the effect this has on owners as I was most upset to find my puppy in a different state than she was left in, and Susan had done this without first consulting me. We won't be using her again.

    Susan looked after our black lab Oscar for a week whilst we went on holiday, this was Oscar's first time staying with other dogs and think it was a great experience for him. Susan updated us with photos throughout the week which was great. I would definitely recommend using Susan, for either home boarding or day care. It seems like a lovely environment, we will definitely be using Susan again on a more regular basis.

    My puppy Axl was a little anxious around other dogs mainly due to their size, this was the first time he had been left as well. Susan was great with him and his time with other dogs did him the world of good, would recommend Susan highly.

    Thank you Kate. Axl was a little overwhelmed by the other dogs when he arrived. However with encouragement his confidence grew throughout the day and by the end he was really beginning to strut his stuff! It was lovely to see the change in him after just one day😊 Hope to see him again soon Susan
